ASHINGTON moved level on points with leaders Newton Aycliffe with a comprehensive win at Redcar Athletic.

Daniel Maguire put Ian Skinner’s men in front on nine minutes, and second-half strikes from Darren Lough and Lee Mason gave them an impressive three points. Danni Lay scored twice as fellow promotion challengers Bishop Auckland came through a severe test with a 4-2 win at struggling Thornaby.

Top-five challengers Guisborough Town and Whitley Bay battled to a goalless draw at the KGV Stadium and Leighton Hopper’s injury-time penalty helped Heaton Stannington to a 2-1 home win against Northallerton Town.

Whickham romped to a 4-1 home win against Pickering Town, despite being reduced to ten men by Kaleb Young’s first-half red card.

Dan Turner’s stunning strike put the Lang Jacks in front just after Young’s dismissal and Shay Richardson’s brace and a late goal from debutant Tom Romano helped his side to a comprehensive win.

Luke Hogan fired the North Yorkshire outfit in front just after the half-hour mark but a Declan Bissett equaliser on 79 minutes set up a grandstand finish and allowed Hopper to clinch the points deep in stoppage time.

Kai Hewitson’s brace gave Crook Town a 2-0 win at Sunderland RCA and Cieran Jackson got the only goal as West Auckland Town saw off Penrith.

Boro Rangers moved back to the top of the table despite being held to a home draw by Ryton and Crawcrook Albion.

The visitors looked set to claim a surprise three points after Aaron Costello gave Albion a first-half lead but a late Daniel Lofts goals ensured Rangers claimed a point.

Birtley Town were in prolific form as Callum Smith’s hat-trick and an Alex Francis brace inspired the Hoops to a 6-0 win at Newcastle University.

Bedlington Terriers took the honours with a win by the odd goal in five against Brandon United.

Lennox Magalahes and Jamie Nash netted for the visitors but they were left empty-handed by a Gilberto Chapim goal and a Matty Hayton brace. Ben Riding grabbed the only goal as Billingham Town saw off Chester-leStreet Town at Bedford Terrace and Kris Hope’s late equaliser claimed a rare point for Willington in their home game with Billingham Synthonia.

The visitors looked well on their way to a win as a Hope own-goal and an Ash Lavan penalty helped them recover from conceding an early goal to Byron Dagnall – but Hope ensured his side took a share of the spoils in the first minute of injury time.

Ben Shodeinde, Alexander Fil and Brandon Young all netted as Chester-leStreet United claimed a 3-1 home win against Prudhoe YC.
