‘POWERHOUSE’ ANDERSON IS ONE TO WATCH

Elliot Anderson is a ‘powerhouse’ who Newcastle United will be desperate to ‘keep hold of’ following an exciting cameo in the victory over Nottingham Forest.

That is the view of former Premier League manager Tim Sherwood, who heaped praise on the Magpies academy graduate for his impact in the second half of the City Ground victory.

Anderson replaced Allan Saint-Maximin at the interval on Friday night, with the scores level after Alexander Isak’s equaliser.

The 20-year-old celebrated wildly after his impressive back-post header looked to have put the visitors ahead, only for a controversial VAR call to deny the midfielder his first Magpies goal.

Eddie Howe’s side went on to secure victory, courtesy of a stoppage-time penalty from Isak to seal a 2-1 win. Sherwood singled out Anderson’s display for praise, and likened the midfielder to fellow academy graduate Sean Longstaff.

The former Tottenham boss told Soccer Saturday: “He looks like Longstaff, he’s that sort of mould, he knows when to arrive in the box. He’s a good all-round player, a fantastic squad player and one they’ll want to keep hold of and nurture because they all love one of their own. The kid is a powerhouse, he gets over the top and is devastated that was ruled out.”
