Cats’ Costa Rican man makes side

SUNDERLAND’S Jewison Bennette has been included in the latest Costa Rica squad for their upcoming CONCACAF Nations League games later this month.

The 18-year-old is part of a 26-man squad named by national boss Luis Fernando Suarez for the games against Martinique at Fort-de-France next Saturday, and against Panama in San Jose on Wednesday, March 29.

Costa Rica are second in the threeteam Group B of CONCACAF Nations League A, and must beat both Martinique and Panama in order to finish top of the group and advance to the semi-finals. Bennette, who came off the bench in Sunderland’s Championship draw against Luton Town yesterday, became the youngest player to win a senior cap for Costa Rica in August 2021 when he made his debut at the age of 17 years and two months.

He was part of Los Ticos’ squad for the World Cup in Qatar in November last year. Bennette becomes the seventh member of Sunderland’s first team squad to receive an international call-up in the current round of fixtures.

Goalkeeper Anthony Patterson has received his first call-up by England

U21, and is in the squad that will play friendlies against France U21 at Leicester City’s King Power Stadium and Croatia at Craven Cottage. Dan Ballard and Trai Hume are in the Northern Ireland squad that will play Euro 2024 qualifiers against San Marino and Finland at Windsor Park.

Amad is part of the Ivory Coast squad that will play a double-header against Comoros as part of their Africa Cup of Nations qualifying programme. And Edouard Michut and Abdoullah Ba are in the France U20 squad for friendlies against the USA, Netherlands, and England.
